What a find this is. MONKO the Monkey with composition head and cloth body. He is in excellent condition, in my opinion. His face and head is in excellent condition, with no chips or peeling of the paint. He still has ruby red lips. Also his bell hop hat still has the string attached. I believe he is from around the 1930's.
Also, the tag is attached that says "Monko" US Patent, Design No. 136167. Jay Rue Nov. Co., NY. There are also no rips or tears to his body. He has 2 brass buttons on his shirt. This belonged to my aunt, and she wrote on the back of the tag when she acquired the money,, 1946.
I have been told that when the organ grinders played on the streets with live monkeys, this monkey was manufactured as a novelty for peoples homes.
He measures approx 12" long.
What a GREAT addition for anyone's collection. I have been looking for a long time for this one, and have only seen a couple.
Let me know if you have any questions and thanks for looking.
